Network of Safe and Protective Schools in Esmeraldas
On June 2, 2025, we launched the RIESP project, Network of Safe and Protective Schools, as part of the consortium led by IRC (International Rescue Committee) and executing partners DYA, Alas de Colibrí, and Educación Para Compartir, funded by ECHO (European Union).
The objective is to guarantee the right to inclusive, equitable, and quality education for children and adolescents in rural and urban-marginal areas of Esmeraldas, Atacames, and Muisne.
How will we do it?
- Access: reintegration of children into the educational system through accelerated leveling services (NAP).
- Permanence: through pedagogical support in schools with School Support services.
- School well-being: implementation of play-based and educational spaces that promote learning and protection against violence.
The project will have a duration of 11 months, from June 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026.
At DYA, we believe that children and adolescents are the protagonists of change. Their permanence in school means an act of resistance and social reconstruction.
Revaluing Black children and adolescents in Ecuador and the contribution of Afro-Ecuadorian peoples requires intercultural, anti-racist education free from discrimination.
