Transformative Circles: Childhoods Free from Sexual Violence

Objective

To contribute to reducing the risk of abuse and sexual violence against children and adolescents in the family and community setting. Additionally, it seeks for children and adolescents, caregivers and operators of the National Protection System (SNP) to strengthen their response and prevention capacity, and enhance initiatives to prevent, combat and respond to all forms of violence against children.

Problem Statement

High incidence of sexual violence against children in Peru. Aggravated by:

  • Wide gap in knowledge and training on sexual violence response.
  • Fragile parental care as a risk factor.
  • Particular vulnerability of migrant and refugee children.

Components and Activities

Expected Result 1: A safe family environment and good protection against abuse and sexual violence against children and adolescents is promoted.

  • Activity 1.1: Strengthening parental competencies for the protection and prevention of abuse and sexual violence against children and adolescents. (4-session program, competency development kit, digital campaign. 320 mothers, fathers and caregivers will participate).
  • Activity 1.2: Case management for child and adolescent protection. (Identification, evaluation, care plan, closure. 80 families will be served. Coordination with the Prosecutor's Office, National Police, DEMUNA and others. Follow-up on judicial complaints and support to the family environment).
  • Activity 1.3: Development of self-care skills and strengthening resilience in children and adolescents through "Safe Spaces" workshops. (Work will be conducted with 640 children and adolescents from Metropolitan Lima and Trujillo).

Expected Result 3: The response capacity of SNP officials is strengthened.

  • Activity 3.1: Accompaniment to COMUDENNA for strengthening sexual violence prevention strategies. (Technical support to six COMUDENNA through 5 working sessions).
  • Activity 3.2: Strengthening competencies of 150 SNP operators (National Police, Prosecutor's Office, Court, DEMUNA, UPE Lima, Trujillo and Arequipa) in basic psychosocial tools, intercultural competencies and emotional support. (Includes assessment of needs and availability of adequate physical spaces).
  • Activity 3.4: Advocacy actions led by children and adolescents. (Alliance and strengthening of children and adolescent organizations; sessions to create proposals for dialogues with authorities, promoting protagonism of children and adolescents).
