Comprehensive Adolescent Development in Monte Sinaí
Ecuador
Objective
The project proposes the implementation of an urban dance artistic process as a strategy for social inclusion in the Monte Sinaí sector, Guayaquil. During four months, urban dance workshops will be held four times per week, collective creation spaces, and five final presentations open to the community. The initiative will combine technical learning of urban dance with playful and participatory dynamics that strengthen creativity, discipline, coordination, and teamwork, contributing to the comprehensive development of participants. This set of activities will strengthen the comprehensive development of adolescents living in high-vulnerability contexts in Monte Sinaí, Guayaquil, through an artistic training process in urban dance that promotes creativity, self-esteem, socio-emotional skills, and the building of safe environments and social inclusion.
Problem Statement
This project is important because it comprehensively addresses the needs of adolescents living in contexts of high social vulnerability, exclusion, and exposure to violence dynamics in Monte Sinaí, Guayaquil. In these territories, the absence of cultural and recreational spaces limits opportunities for personal development and access to educational and artistic activities that promote emotional well-being, creativity, and mental health. Urban dance becomes a strategic tool for generating spaces of inclusion and protection where adolescents in Monte Sinaí can express themselves freely, develop discipline, coordination, creativity, and socio-emotional skills. Additionally, the project has important community impact. By involving families, neighbors, and community leaders in final presentations, it promotes social cohesion, appreciation of urban culture, and visibility of local talent, creating a multiplier effect that goes beyond direct beneficiaries.
The project has high social value by offering adolescents in vulnerable situations a safe space to develop, strengthen their self-esteem, promote inclusion, and foster positive bonds between peers and with the community. Artistic activities and community presentations make local talents visible, raise awareness about the value of urban art, and contribute to social cohesion in a territory marked by exclusion and violence. From an educational perspective, it complements school education and provides tools to build positive life projects and open opportunities for future development in the artistic and cultural sphere. From an artistic perspective, it promotes technical learning of urban dance, integrating movements, rhythm, scenic expression, and creativity, while collaboration with the National Dance Company ensures professional standards and strengthens the cultural identity of participants.
